SENSITIVE SKIN & REDNESS

Sensitive skin and redness are signs of a hyper reactive immune system and low level, chronic inflammation. Skin stress that would not cause a skin flare-up in normal skin such as changes in temperature or humidity, washing and certain chemical irritants can cause sensitive skin to produce histamine, causing redness and soreness.

It is vital to remove any irritating ingredients from your skincare regime, as these will make your skin react. Steer clear of foaming cleansers as they destroy the protective barrier layer of skin and any aggressive products such as abrasive scrubs or harsh peels as well as irritating fragrance allergens and synthetic chemicals. Sun over exposure can also cause skin stress so a mineral based SPF should be used to protect the skin and reduce further irritation.

Use a soothing non foaming cleanser such as the S5 Neutralise Cleanser which does not strip the protective barrier layer of the skin. The S5 Calm Serum contains Sea Mayweed, which has been tested on people and proven to reduce the appearance of long term redness. It also contains Sea Fennel Peptides which are proven in vitro (test tube only) to reduce the spread of vascularisation therefore potentially helpful in reducing the appearance of skin flushing and redness and Desert Glycoproteins, which have proven to support the natural cellular repair mechanism and reduce potential skin stress and irritation.

For a daily moisturiser, choose between the Restore Cream, which is a rich cream containing Desert Glycoproteins to boost hydration and reduce skin stress, or the Balance Fluid, a light fluid containing Alpine Epilobium Fleisheri which helps to reduce the over production of oil. Both moisturisers contain Marine Laminaria, which reduces the skin activators of sensitivity and prevents immune related ageing.

The Neutralise Cleanser, Calm Serum and Balance Fluid all have the same hypoallergenic fragrance and the Restore Cream has a low allergen fragrance (do patch test all of them first for sensitivity).
