Our Ecosystems

We have selected highly effective natural bioactives sourced from the extremes of nature, making them bio adapted to be resilient to stress. Here are the 5 extreme ecosystems where our natural bioactives come from:

High Altitude

The high altitude ecosystem has long winters and cold temperatures but also thin air and a high level of UV radiation. High Altitude plants tend to be very potent and well adapted to deal with environmental stress. In the S5 Illuminate Serum designed for hyperpigmentation, we use a blend of 7 Alpine herbs which helps to reduce the appearance of UV damage and we also use Maca, a root from the high Andes of Peru which energises the skin, boosting luminosity and radiance.

High Altitude Rosehip oil from Chile is a natural source of bioretinol, which can boost cellular turnover and reduce the appearance of scars. It is also a potent antioxidant, helping to nourish and protect the skin. It can be found in our  Nourish Cleanser and ourReplenish Serum

The Arctic ecosystem is one of the harshest places on the planet. The extreme cold is capable of crushing cellular walls. Extremophilic (extreme loving) bacteria are some of the only life that can be found in this environment and they produce special glycoproteins to strengthen their cellular walls and defend against the cold. When purified and used on the skin, these glycoproteins deliver sensational anti ageing benefits due to their amazing strengthening properties on collagen. They are also cryoprotective (protect against extreme cold).

We also use Sea Buckthorn, a rich orange berry which is found in the Arctic regions. This is a rich source of rare Omega 7, and a high source of Vitamin A. When used on the skin, sea buckthorn berry oil helps improve the appearance of elasticity and decreases redness. This can be found in our Nourish Cleanser and our Replenish Serum

In the Desert, there is very little water and there is also a very big variation between the temperature in the daytime and at night. Plants like cactuses evolve special ways to lock water into their cells and also to cope with extreme temperatures. We use a purified extract of the Prickly Pear plant, which delivers hydration and also soothes the skin. This can be found in our Serenity Cream and our Neutralise Cleanser

In our Extreme Protection Complex, found in all S5 moisturizers, we use Desert Glycoproteins from extremophilic bacteria found in the Wadi desert in Egypt which provide extreme hydration and protection for cells from pollution, radiation and ageing. You can also find them in our Calm Serum.

The Never Die Moringa tree, found in Africa, is traditionally used to purify water. It is a potent antioxidant, adapted to hot and dry conditions. Moringa peptides can be used to protect the skin against pollution by helping to remove an invisible layer of micro particles which prevent the skin from breathing effectively. These can be found in our  Neutralise Cleanser

In the marine environment, conditions are both harsh and changeable. The saltiness of the water causes considerable cellular stress. The tidal fluctuation causes variation in both the moisture levels and also the temperature. In our Extreme Protection Complex found in all S5  moisturisers, we use Laminaria Seaweed which is well adapted to this harsh environment acting as a strong anti inflammatory agent for reactive, sensitive skin.

The Rainforest ecosystem is lush and humid and life flourishes there. However, plants have to compete with bacteria and other life forms to survive. Several Amazonian plants have potent antibacterial properties. In the S5 Purity Serum for Blemishes, we use an antibacterial Amazonian blend of Acai and Copaiba which helps to reduce the appearance of blemishes and balance oil production.

Amazonian plants also have potent vitality boosting properties. In our Renew Eye Cream we use a blend of Rainforest Marapuma, Pfaffia and White Lily, which work together to reduce the appearance of dark circles and puffiness in the eye area.
